Coop Reps Attend CDA’s Seminar on Business Continuity Management
On August 22, 2023, CBMPC Director Lamelita Aquino and Accountant Shey Fetalvero attended the Seminar on Business Continuity Management conducted by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) held at the CDA – NCR Extension Office Conference Room, Corregidor Street corner EDSA in Bago Bantay, Quezon City.
Items discussed during the said seminar consisted of:
- Business Continuity Management: Definition and Framework;
- Business Continuity Plan (BCP): Model, Key Purposes (Employees’ and Members’ Safety, Clients’ Confidence and Minimal Economic Losses) and Process in Preparing the BCP (Build your Team, Risk Assessment and Recovery Plan); and
- Continues Review/ improvement of the BCP: Drills and Exercises, and Audit and Monitoring
It is worthy to note that based on the knowledge imparted to the participants, Dir. Aquino reported to the Board that the existing BCP of CBMPC is even more comprehensive. The coop BCP which was approved by the CBMPC Board on June 29, 2021 was prepared by an Ad Hoc Committee headed by Dir. Noemi dela Paz and with Dir. Estela Correa and GM Lydia de Asis as members.
Nevertheless, in the report to the Board, the following are the recommendations to improve further the coop’s BCP:
- Include in BCP, assessment of members’ status/condition after any disaster;
- Implement regular drills such as fire, earthquake, etc. (this is part of the existing BCP & needs to be done);
- Regular exercise on implementation of call tree (Sometimes referred to as a phone tree, call list or text chain is a telecommunications notification chain; Per Dir. Aquino, CBMPC’s call tree is more modern and easier to implement); and
- Audit of BCP activities to include checking of back-up files and also of the accounting system
