A Faithful Servant Leader

Mr. Demetrio “Demy” Opinion

CBMPC Vice Chairperson

The numbers are irrefutable:

• 19 years of membership in the coop

• 13 years as member of the of the Board of Directors

• 3 years as Vice Chairperson

• 2 years combined as Director-Designate for Business Development and Investment Committee and currently, for Credit Committee

And so are his accomplishments in the cooperative undeniable.

Mr. Demetrio Opinion, known as VC Demy among his peers, is a prominent figure in the CBMPC. He has served as the Vice Chair of the CBMPC Board of Directors since 2022 and is currently the Director-Designate of the Credit Committee.

Before taking on the role of Vice Chair, Demy played a key role in establishing the LBP Retirees Cooperative, which later evolved into what is now known as CBMPC. He has been a regular member of the cooperative for 19 years, joining in 2006 after retiring from the Land Bank of the Philippines, where he held various positions from Branch Manager to Regional Head.VC Demy has participated in mandatory training sessions and various seminars focused on cooperative operations and best practices. He actively supports the cooperative’s products and services.

In 2020, he helped the cooperative relocate its office from Malate, Manila, to the Pope Pius XII Center at United Nations Avenue in Paco, Manila.

At that time, with rental costs in the Malate area rising, VC Demy suggested to move the coop office to the Pope Pius XII Center which is associated with Adoracion Nocturna Filipina, a religious organization where he serves as Treasurer. This transfer to the Pope Pius XII Center resulted in an annual rental savings of more than P600,000 for CBMPC. The cooperative operated at the U.N. Avenue office for about five years or until August 28 this year and then moved to its permanent office at Unit 205, One Taft Residences in Manila.

Additionally, his involvement in other cooperatives, where he serves as either a director or vice chair (specifically, as a Director at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Credit Cooperative since 2020 and as Vice Chair of the Mary Help of Christians Credit Cooperative from 2014 until March 2025), puts him in a strong position to share his experiences and knowledge with our cooperative.

When asked about his vision for CBMPC, he stated with hope and conviction, “It involves the possibility of merging with another LANDBANK cooperative. A unified cooperative for LANDBANK employees and retirees could be more competitive, stronger, and more stable. Once merged, we could rank among the league of billionaire cooperatives in the country.”

Such optimism and hope are inspiring. As George Eliot, an English novelist and poet once said, “It is never too late to be what you might have been.”
